Hi, friends! We’re still in January, albeit nearing the end, so I think new year resolutions can still be thought of and committed too, right? 😜 My husband and I like to come up with a focus word for the year. Why do that? I’m glad you asked. A focus word helps bring clarity about what we would like to see happen in our lives for the year. This word helps drive our decisions month after month and keeps us “focused” on what it is that we are trying to achieve in the coming year. Essentially, a focus word becomes a guide throughout the year. It’s a personal word, so it should be meaningful to what it is that you want to see come to fruition in your life. Our word for 2019 is Intentionality. We are striving to be intentional in our words and actions this year. 👫
I think a lot of times we, as a society, are not intentional enough (ie. sending a handwritten birthday note instead of just writing on a FB wall – guilty of this over here ✋). We are a generation that is so connected digitally but oftentimes feel so alone. I wonder if this is because many “relationships” are not based on likes/ quick comments and not substance. This year we are striving to be intentional in a lot of different ways. One way we are doing this is by connecting with our family back home as often as we can. Since we’ve moved, it has become more important than ever for us to be intentional with those relationships. Family is so important and the distance + busyness of life can unintentionally put these significant relationships on the back burner. So, we’re not just going to send a one-sentence text once or twice a week. We are going to pick up the phone and call and spend an hour on the phone catching up. And we won’t be watching TV or scrolling on social media whilst on the phone because we want our family to have our full attention. Relationships will only be as strong as the work you put into them. 💓
Dreams are important to have. I have lots of dreams but rarely do they move beyond just that… a dream. This year is going to be different though. One dream I’ve had is to write and to share that writing in a blog-type format. I’m happy to say that I’ve taken an *intentional* step into that dream! Lol What brings me joy (as Marie Kondo would say – have you seen her Netflix show Tidying Up?) is talking about store sales/ discounts, beauty products, fashion finds, faith, love, travel and so much more! Writing is an extension of who we are, and I think that’s why I haven’t started a blog sooner. “What if no one reads it? Worse, what if people read it an don’t like it?” It’s thoughts like these that hold us back from taking chances and pursuing our passions. Is there anything holding you back from pursuing your passions? Why not make today the day where you take a step to change that?
We want to continue growing deeper in our relationship with the Lord and in His Word individually and as a couple. Thankfully, we have found a church to call home. Our goal is to become involved in the ways we can and begin to build what we hope to be life-long friendships. Being a part of Bible-believing church will surround us with accountability and provide us with the opportunity to do life with like-minded individuals. It’s our heart’s desire to one day have children and to raise them in a church we call home and are actively involved in. We couldn’t be more excited for this!
The last area I’ll talk about today that my husband and I want to be more intentional in is with our adventures. Yes, we want to be explorers!! Lol We have a whole new state to explore now. Florida offers so much more than Disney and Epcot – though I would like to visit both. 😜 There are many MANY forest preserves and wildlife conservations to visit, foods to eat, beaches to lay on, historical sites to visit and botanical gardens to enjoy! You don’t have to travel far to be an explorer. 😊 However, traveling far is something we also like to do. We are going to Puerto Rico in a couple of months with my sister-in-law and her husband and we are going to explore our hearts out!
Ok, I think I’ll stop here for now, lest I run the risk of becoming a bore. 😉 If you don’t already have one, I hope this post got you thinking of what your focus word could be for 2019. If you have one, feel free to drop a comment below. I’d love to hear what it is!
