My everyday foundation routine is quick and easy – as it should be! There are days where you can spend a little extra time on your face and “beat it” with layers of concealer, contour, “baking,” bronzer, blinding highlight, etc. But that’s just not practical for most of us. So, I’m going to show you how you can get a fresh, dewy finish for your everyday look!
First, and a step not to be missed if you can help it, is to use a primer. What a primer does is fill in pores and create a smooth surface for your foundation to blend beautifully on. My favorite at the moment is The POREfessional Face Primer from Benefit. Sometimes I just use Prep + Prime Fix+ from M.A.C. It’s a hydrating mist and not a primer, per say. However, it does “prep” the skin in the sense that it provides a dewy sheen as a base for your foundation. I feel like it gives you a “glow from within” base to work with and it helps with the longevity of your makeup.
Next, let’s talk foundation! I have tried many foundations, but I have come to the conclusion that Rainforest of the Sea foundation from Tarte is my FAVORITE everyday foundation. It is wonderful! (I’m in the shade Light Medium Honey). I love it for a few reasons. First, it’s quite clean and is sensitive-skin friendly. It is a hypoallergenic foundation free of mineral oil, sulfates, parabens, and so many other nasty ingredients. Second, it has SPF 15! I love this, especially living in Florida. Any extra SPF I can get from my products is welcomed. Third, this foundation melts into my skin so evenly and without having to use a lot of the product to get the coverage I desire. As an everyday foundation, I’m ok with a light coverage, but this is definitely buildable. I appreciate that it leaves my skin looking natural but “filtered” (like my face literally looks airbrushed).
I’m convinced that these great features of the foundation stem from being a water-based foundation! Here’s a quote I took from Sephora about this foundation:
Water Foundation provides environmental defense with antioxidant-rich marine plant extracts. It helps protect and perfect the look of all skin types, even sensitive skin, while also diminishing visible signs of aging. It features medium coverage with a naturally-radiant finish, and is 20-percent water-based.https://www.sephora.com/product/rainforest-the-sea-water-foundation-broad-spectrum-spf-15-P405102
Now it’s time to talk about concealer! I use the bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer by BareMinerals. For me, it provides more than enough coverage while remaining smooth and creamy and NOT cakey looking. The whole point of concealer is to conceal, not add under-eye creasing and patchy texture! This formula is very hydrating and is super lightweight – I’m obsessed. Because I have some red pigmentation primarily in the center of my face, I use a color that basically matches my foundation because I’m just adding more coverage to certain areas (the color I use is Medium).
I’m going to wrap things up with what powder, blush, and overall highlight I use when I’m on the go. For powder, I use the Maybelline® FIT ME!® Matte + Poreless Powder. I like that it’s matte and buildable. However, because I’m really into dewy skin at the moment, I just use a TOUCH of this powder to set the liquids (foundation/concealer) on my face. I’m currently wearing shade 320 – Natural Tan. Lately, I’ve been using the BareMinerals blush in the color Timeless. I couldn’t find this exact shade, so I’ve linked a similar one here. 🙂 To get an overall “glow from within” look, I use Pure Nude Highlighter by Essence in the shade Be My Highlight. It’s also totally budget-friendly at under $5! To top everything off, I put on whatever lipstick I’m feeling at the moment. In today’s case, I used the shade 1995 shade by Gerard Cosmetics. It’s the perfect ’90s mauve, matte shade!
That’s it! Easy-peasy, right? It truly does take me just 5 minutes to get ready with this routine. Because I do this so often, it comes like second nature. I can do it with my eyes closed at this point, which I think is totally the point of an everyday foundation routine! 🙂
