Happy New Year, friends! I pray year 2020 has started off smoothly for you and that you had a wonderful holiday season. 🎄 My husband and I have had a busy couple of months, which is why I’ve been a bit MIA. In November, we took a quick trip to Puerto Rico to visit family and spend Thanksgiving there. A few weeks later, we flew to Chicago to spend Christmas with our families. All the while, we had a BIG surprise that we were keeping a secret… we bought a house 🏡… in Tampa after living in Miami the past 1.5yrs!
For us, the home buying process wasn’t a piece of cake. I’m not really sure it is for anyone. We had planned on starting our home search now in January 2020, but we ended up starting our search in August… mostly because I was eager to see what the housing market was looking like. 😅 Lol! Anyways, there were a few houses we liked but only two we loved. The first house we fell in love with just wasn’t meant to be. I got pretty discouraged after that since we had seen A LOT of houses by that point and because the houses over here sell SO quickly. One minute they’re put up for sale and less than 12 hours later, they’re already pending/ under contract. 😒 You have to act fast if you want a house, but buying a house is a huge deal! But I knew the Lord would provide, and we were really intentional about trusting in His timing (though at times this was certainly easier said than done).
The second house we fell in love with had everything on our list of “must have” items and we didn’t have to compromise. Plus, it had additional bonuses like a pool and an electric baby grand piano 🎹 (Yes, I am now the proud owner of a piano)! It was the home we could both see ourselves raising a family in. 💓 We placed a full-priced offer on this house the same day we saw it and in less than 12 hours, the owners had received and chosen another buyer! I was crushed. For days I just didn’t feel like myself and I couldn’t get out of the weird funk I was in. I was on my hands and knees asking God for an answer because I had felt so strongly that this was THE house, you know? We had been praying for months that He would open doors and provide for a home just like this one for us. It was confusing and hard to have seemed to have been told “no” to our “dream house.” 🏡
A few days after hearing our offer wasn’t chosen, another house we had seen a few weeks prior went back up on the market and it was only three streets away from the dream house. We ended up placing an offer on that house and it was accepted. At this point, we were weary from the 3+ hour drive up from Miami to Tampa and just sort of decided to get that house, flip it, and then resell in a few years… it would at least get us up to Tampa. So we moved forward with setting a home inspection date for the house and drove up to Tampa later on that week for inspection.
The day after the home inspection, my husband received a call from our realtor (THIS IS WHERE IT GETS CRAZY). He said, “Is your wife around? She’s going to freak out with the news that I have.” Of course I wasn’t around this one time, but I did receive a 9-1-1 text from my husband. Turns out, the chosen buyers of our dream house backed out of the contract on the last day of their home inspection… so the the sellers came back to us!! We had a decision to make. Should we stick with the home we knew for sure was in solid condition (per the home inspection) but wasn’t our forever home, or should we take a risk and go for the dream house without knowing in what condition the home was truly in?
Well, we took the risk and it was worth it! Our Christmas Miracle was being able to close on our house the day before Christmas Eve. You guys, we truly feel without a doubt that this was a God thing. This house was meant for us and the season of waiting paid off. I mean… how many people get to say that they prayed a house would be theirs even though it was under contract with someone else?? We give Him all the glory. We’ve since been busy trying to make this house our home. 💗 I can’t wait to share before and after photos with you all because holy cow there’s already a difference – thank heavens for paint! 😂
