Hi friends! First of all, I hope you are all doing well and that you are staying as safe and healthy as you can during this COVID-19 situation. It’s definitely a disheartening time, but it’s so important for us to remain joyful despite feeling perhaps the very opposite. I’ve had moments of feeling down, but there really is so much to be thankful for. One thing that has kept me joyful during this uncertain time is our new puppy, Mr. Remington! That’s his legal name for all official business matters, but family and friends (that’s you) can call him Remi for short. 😜

Remi is a Beagle/Fox Hound Mix. We aren’t sure what his daddy is, but we’d love to do one of those doggy DNA tests to find out! Lol We were super thankful to have adopted him from an amazing foster family who volunteers with a wonderful beagle rescue, Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue. This rescue is an all volunteer, foster based, non-profit organization. They are military/ veteran family friendly and work hard to find their rescues their “furever” home! 💙
We had been talking about getting a puppy here and there for a few months. However, I never took it too seriously because of how hard I took it when my family dog, Samson, passed 2.5 years ago. I couldn’t see how I could love another dog as much as I loved him and then having to say goodbye one day (such is life, I know, but still). Losing Samson was honestly very traumatic for me. I still tear up when I think about it. I miss him. But one day my husband looked at me sweetly and said, “I can see a dog here [our home]. Just think about it.” He’s never had a dog of his own and I knew he really wanted that experience. It was only a matter of time before my heart was ready to fully embrace another pup because I really am a total dog lover (all animals really and they love me too… not to toot my own horn, but I’m like the modern day Snow White haha).
We are pretty much done with all the big renovations in the house (blog post coming on all that we’ve done), and it’s a good sized home for just two people. With my husband working from home and me here too, I figured it couldn’t hurt to at least “look” at what puppies were currently adoptable in the area. That’s one thing that was a non-negotiable for us, we knew if we ever did get a dog, we’d be adopting (#adoptdontshop). We were open to different dog breeds, but we leaned toward the beagle breed because that’s what we’re familiar with. Samson was a Beagle/Rottweiler mix (funniest part of that mix is that it was his mom that was the Rottweiler 🤣). So I started researching animal rescues in the area and that’s when I came across Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue! It was on a Friday night that I saw Remi’s cute little face and his handsome brindle coloring, and I figured I’d just submit an adoption application to see if we’d get approved. We were approved right away. After a phone interview the following Wednesday, and a meet and greet that Saturday, we picked Remi up on Sunday, March 15th, his “Gotcha Day!” 🐶
To our surprise, he basically came to us house trained, and he sleeps through the night! The other day I told my husband that he’s not getting a true puppy experience with how good this dog is. Haha Remi has also become VERY good at sit and we’re working on come, which he’ll do so long as he’s not distracted with the foliage around him. 😂 He LOVES doing zoomies – running around the yard really really fast and doing circles mid-run. 💨 His foster name was Slinky, and honestly, he lives up to that! He can slink his way into the smallest openings with his long legs and slender body. Haha He’s an outside kinda guy and just loves to be out in the yard just sniffing away (just like Samson did)! Being able to adopt Remington has been the sweetest. most unexpected blessing. Not only are we able to give him a life full of love, happiness, and the best treats, but we know that in return we’ll get lots of laughs, lovin’, and cuddles from our Remi boy!
