Hey Friends! I’m checking in with you. How are we feeling??
I’m of the mindset that we must try our very best to stay positive and make the most out of this COVID-19 self-quarantine situation. With so many people now working from home and this not being the norm for them, it can be a really hard adjustment. I’d consider myself more of an introvert, so being asked to self-quarantine isn’t really all that different than how I live my life on the daily, to be honest. Haha However, I do know that being home 24/7 for others is just not the most comfortable thing in the world. So, I thought it would be fun to write about a few of the things I’m doing to pass the time while I self-quarantine with my husband. 🤗
>> Please leave me a comment letting me know what you’re doing to keep a positive mindset through this whole situation!
Read
Now is a great time to pick up that book you’ve been meaning to get to! What’s your favorite book genre? I’m more of a historical fiction kinda gal, but I also really enjoy thrillers and mystery books too. Really, I’ll give most any genre a try at least once. I’ll list some of my favorite books/ books I’ve recently read down below. There’s also the National Emergency Library that was recently created. Here you can access over 1.4 million books, music, movies, and more! Even Audible is offering free audiobooks during this time too! They have a lot of kids books actually, which is great for all the kiddos home from school. 📚
Self-Care
I for one am excited to take advantage of this! Even though I’m home pretty much all day every day regularly, there’s always something to do or a project going on that keeps me form doing basic self-care stuff, such as painting my nails, curling my hair, applying more than a 5-minute makeup look, or even taking time in the evening to grab some hot tea and just relax. I’m changing that starting with my current nail situation! Lol My favorite nail polish these days is Funny Bunny by O.P.I. 💅🏽
What are some self-care things you like to do? Do you have a favorite face mask? I’m in need of a new one!
New Skill
1. With all this time, we have a great opportunity to learn a new skill or to freshen up on an old one! Like how about learning a new language? I have Rosetta Stone to try and learn Spanish! Duolingo is a great, free resource for learning a new language. I actually have the app on my phone and it’s fun! If you could learn any language, which one would you choose to learn?
2. Now is also a great time to put those cooking utensils to work! Have any new recipes you’ve been wanting to try? Or any older recipes that you want to perfect? I want to really perfect arroz con gandules! I’ve already baked the most delicious banana bread and will be experimenting with some new recipes for my Le Creuset dutch oven that I pinned on Pinterest. If you’re into crockpot meals, I love this cookbook for all my Mexican food cravings! 🌶️
>> Side note: If you’re looking for a clean and healthy salad idea for lunch or dinner…. look no further! This Roasted Sweet Potato Quinoa Kale Salad recipe is AMAZING & TASTY! Feel free to add protein if you’d like (we’ve done chicken or fish).
3. I don’t know if you have one, but I do not have a green thumb…lol! 🌱 However, now that I have a yard of my own, I thought it would be fun to try planting a little herb garden! This will get me outside to enjoy some fresh air and it’ll be fun to watch my hard work pay off in the upcoming weeks/months. Plus, there’s nothing like adding fresh herbs to your meals! 👩🍳
Organize
Now is as good a time as ever to get our Spring cleaning started and finished! There’s nothing like a squeaky clean home that makes you feel extra adult-like, am I right? 🤣 I love using the Mrs. Meyer’s Peony Scented products in conjunction with my other cleaning products. My house always smells so clean and pretty!
Now that I live in Florida, I don’t really have to deal with switching over my wardrobe from Winter to Spring clothes, but that’s no excuse to let my closet and dresser become unruly with clothing items I haven’t worn in 6+ months. 🤪 I like to separate my clothing into 3 piles: Keep, Maybe, Donate. The clothing in the ‘Maybe’ pile will have 6 months to be worn, if not, they get donated. Now that I’ve taken some time to declutter my personal space, I have been feeling so light and fluffy! Anyone else feel like a weight is lifted off their shoulders after decluttering? Just me? Ok cool… 😂
Of course, do all this whilst playing your favorite music in the background! Even consider creating a playlist on Spotify, that’s always fun too!! 🎶
Stay In Touch
If there was ever a time to start liking family time, now is it! Lol Some of the games we have the most fun with I’ve included below. 🎲 Do you have a favorite board game? Let me know in the comments below!
Hosting a FaceTime (or WhatsApp, Skype, Google Hangout) party is a fun way to connect with your friends and family too! I’ve seen people doing Happy Hour on Instagram Live and think that’s such a fun idea to be able to check in with others and share a good laugh. 😆 The point is, STAY CONNECTED! It’s healthy and it’s necessary, especially right now. 💗
Alright you guys that’s what I have for ya! I hope some of these ideas are helpful to you and get you excited. 😄 It’s really all about perspective right now. We have to choose to be joyful, choose to be thankful, and choose to take advantage of this unexpected time that we have. I realize that this thought process is something that is much easier written and said than done, but it’s truly up to us to make the most out of this situation. If we have our health, a roof over our head, and food to sustain us, we are blessed. 💕
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. … Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.”
Psalm 62:5-8
Stay safe & healthy, friends!
