Wow, how can it possibly be six months since we moved into our home?! Seriously, the older I get, the more I realize how quickly time flies. This is the first home we’ve purchased and we’ve been learning all the things that come along with home ownership. It has been a {mostly} fun journey and it definitely feels more like a home now and not just a house. We’ve put in a lot of work transforming this place and I can’t wait for you to see our progress!

We have an open floor concept which we LOVE and wasn’t all that easy to come by here in Florida. It was important for us to have the dining room, kitchen, and family room open because it’s our hope that we can use this space for entertaining guests and having church small groups here one day! Overall, the home is still very much a blank canvas. Now that we have most of the big changes taken care of, we can begin really personalizing the space and adding some color to brighten it up!
*I do want to note that this post isn’t meant to be “braggy” or showing off. That is not our heart at all. My husband and I feel very blessed and fortunate that the Lord entrusted us with this home and we give Him all the glory. It took us several years of budgeting, saving, and becoming debt free for us to be able to even look at owning. Everything we have is a result of God’s grace. We pray this home will be as much of a blessing to others as it has been and will continue to be for us and our future family. ❤️
Entryway

The previous owners had curtains framing the front door. Though we actually didn’t hate the concept, we wanted something less fussy and that worked seamlessly with the front door. We had plantation shutters custom made to fit the side windows of our front door. We love how they turned out and will be doing plantation shutters for the huge windows we have on either side of the door in the dining room and office. We love all the light that comes in through these windows and want them to be a focal point not an eyesore taking away from their beauty!
Dining Room

The dining area isn’t super spacious, but I feel like this gorgeous farmhouse table from Ashley’s Furniture helps make it feel bigger. We purchased four of the matching chairs and added two tufted end chairs from Wayfair. I added this rug from Overstock to help ground the space. The mirror is a few years old and was a gift, but it’s Target’s Threshold brand.
My pride and joy of this space, though, is the chandelier! I literally stalked this chandelier for months until there was a sale. It’s the focal piece of the room and really sets the tone for our decor style. I like to think we’re going for a European Country feel; the two art pieces (I snagged them for $5 a piece on FB Marketplace) fit the style perfectly! We plan on adding wainscoting soon for some added character and to further define the space.

Kitchen

This kitchen has been a dream! The most notable transformations are twofold, the painting of the cabinets and the island, which is pretty substantial at 3×7. Before, the cabinets were two-toned and just didn’t work for our aesthetic. We went with a custom light gray paint color from Sherwin Williams for the cabinets. This alone made such a difference in lightening up the space. The island cabinetry is from Innovation Cabinetry and is in the color Stone Gray. The quartz countertop is Lowe’s Silestone “Ariel”.
We changed out the old pendant light and replaced it with this gorgeous pendant from Wayfair that matches the chandelier so well and was worth every penny! Our next project is to change the backsplash to a white subway tile that’ll pair nicely with the white quartz top on the island.
Office/ Study Room

The previous owners used this room as a TV room, but since my husband works from home, we made this into an office/ study space. We painted, took out the carpet and installed vinyl flooring. However, the most obvious difference is that we hired a handyman to enclose the room! We added recessed lighting and glass french doors that I’m proud to say I stained myself.

We love to read and this bookshelf from Ashley’s Furniture is actually used for holding our books, not just styled to look cute 😉 (although, I would love to have styled shelves somewhere else in our home). I gifted my husband this cool “Silence is Golden” statue from Amazon and he loves it. Lol For now, the piano is in here too. Can you believe the previous owners left it?! I’m relearning how to play and couldn’t be happier about it! Here’s the link for the floor lamp from Target.
Family Room

The family room is our most lived in space and I’m loving how it’s coming together! The recessed lighting we added has made such a difference in the evening – we actually have light now. Lol We’ve had this sectional from Ashley’s Furniture for several years now and it actually fits the space perfectly. We recently added this rug from Wayfair that makes the space feel more cozy (and our puppy, Remi, loves it). We actually took out the built-ins and are temporarily using them in the office as a desk and for storage. This round coffee table is from Ballard Designs and fits the space like a glove! Here is a similar option and here’s one more option – both are from Wayfair.
As far as decor, here’s the wood beam I ordered from Hayneedle and here are the wall sconces I picked up at Hobby Lobby. I added a wood tray to the coffee table as a cute way to display/ hold the remote controls and coasters. Also, it’s not a priority right now, but we do plan on getting a new entertainment center.

Master Bedroom

Can we please talk about the original purple color of this room? No, thank you. So happy with this gorgeous cream color called Quail Egg by Valspar. It really makes the room feel so bright & airy. Our bed frame is old from Target but the bedsheets are relatively new from HomeGoods. Above our bed, I have two canvas pieces with our vows. I ordered them from Etsy a few years back. I think this is a great sentimental statement piece to have displayed!

We changed out the chandelier for a ceiling fan (it was a non-negotiable for my hubby). The dresser and nightstands are from Ashley’s Furniture but we got them from Amazon. They weren’t my first choice, but I do like them. The pieces I really wanted were from Pottery Barn but cost a fortune. 😅 The mirror is something I always get questions about on Instagram. It’s from Kirkland’s and makes me happy! The next major project in this room will be a complete bathroom renovation.

Pool/ Backyard

Now that the inside of the house is almost completely renovated, we’ve begun to turn our attention to the yard. Let me tell you, both the front and backyard need our attention! Lol The first thing we’ve tackled is resurfacing our pool. It was seriously ugly before and not swimmable. We sold the hot tub because who needs a hot tub in Florida? Now we have space for our new grill! The pool is seriously gorgeous and we have already enjoyed lots of pool days. You can learn all about this project on this blog post.

We hired a company to come out and cut back/ remove a few trees and bushes to open the space up more and give it a cleaner look. It has really helped with the maintenance of the yard. We’ll be replanting grass come this fall when the Florida sun is beating down on the yard. We do want to have landscaping done and are going to try to plant a little garden too!
Other Rooms
These rooms didn’t have much change other than a fresh coat (or two) of paint. Here are before and after photos of the in-law suite, laundry, pool bath, and guest room. The room we’ll use as a nursery one day is currently our “catch all” room and is a hot mess, so I only have the before photo of that. Lol The rooms are done except for we do still need to install closet doors in the future nursery and other guest room.

Phew! Wow, that was a lot, but it makes me appreciate this home even more when I relive where we started! Lol Do you enjoy renovating, detracting, DIYing??? I’ve found myself enjoying it for the most part. I’ve liked getting to be creative! If you have any questions at all, leave me a comment. 😊
So happy to have been able to share our progress with you and forever grateful to the Lord for blessing us with this home! ❤️
